New initiative at data.gov

There are 131,535 data sets available at data.gov. See http://catalog.data.gov/dataset . A metadata schema based on DCAT has been mandated for all government data, effective February 1st, 2015. See: https://project-open-data.cio.gov/v1.1/schema/ . DCAT (Data Catalog Vocabulary) is an RDF-based recommendation from W3C. RDF (Resource Description Framework) is a fundamental building block in semantic web descriptions. Our goal this summer is to build expertise in effectively utilizing the new semantic-web enabled access to the federal data.
